On the island of Formentera the festivities go hand in hand with employers of each population. The calendar is very varied and throughout the year we can enjoy many of them, but it will be in summer when we have more possibilities.
Each town performs a similar ritual. The mornings have the Holy Mass, the afternoons with the typical peasant dances with the regional costume, and in the abundant nights Fireworks to make way for concerts and verbenas In the squares. Participation is massive, both by residents and tourists.
We will only name the most prominent:
San Ferrán it is celebrated on May 30, especially in Sant Ferrán de Ses Roques. Sant Joan, on June 24, is the magic night of the bonfires and marks the official start of summer. The most famous party is celebrated in La Mola.
All sea villages and especially in La savina and It's Pujols, they honor the Virgin of Carmen July 16. The patron of the sailors is taken out in nautical procession with the company of all the vessels of the ports. Then on the streets, the dances of the country, the music and the acts take place.
Sant Jaume, on July 25, is the most important holiday on the island for being the patron saint of Formentera and of Spain. The biggest celebration, and where all the settlers congregate, is the one of its capital, San Francisco.
August 5th Santa Maria It is celebrated in a different town every year. The regional wine tasting contest becomes very important here. In La Mola, the biggest party is the day of Our Lady of Pilar, August 12th. San Francisco Javier, on December 3 he is honored in the town of San Francisco, where is patron.
