Hymn – Turkey

One of its national symbols of Turkey is his National anthem, the Istiklâl Marsi (the March of Independence). His lyrics consist of 10 stanzas of which only 2 are sung, and was written by the poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy. The original music is the work of Ali Rıfat Çağatay and was later changed by an arrangement written by Osman Zeki Üngör, director of the presidential symphony orchestra.

ISTIKLÂL MARSI

Korkma, sönmez bu êafaklarda yüzen al sancak
Sönmeden yurdumun üstünde tüten in son ocak.
Or benim milletimin. Yildizidir parlayacak.
Or benimdir, or benim milletimindir ancak.
Çatma, kurban olayim cehreni hey nazli hilâl!
Kahraman irkima bir gül ne bu siddet, bu celâl
Sana olmaz dökülen kanlarimiz sonra helâl
Hakkidir hakka cover milletimin istiklâl!

MARCH OF INDEPENDENCE (in Spanish)

No to fear and dismay,
This crimson flag will never fade.
It is the last heart that is burning for my nation
And we are sure it will never fail.
It is the star of my nation, shining forever,
It is the star of my nation and it is mine.
Without frowning, just growing, I’m ready to die for you.
Smile now my heroic nation, leave this anger,
So blood won’t be shed without being blessed
freedom the slogan of my nation,
freedom for us who worship God
And we look for the right thing.
